DELAYED SELF-PLEDGE:

When you sign up to participate in Women Build, you are committing yourself to making a HUGE impact within your community. We need your help and support to make sure we can continue to build brighter futures for families through affordable housing.

However, if you cannot fundraise the $500 through your network, the system will automatically set you up for a delayed self-pledge. A delayed self-pledge means that if you have not raised the minimum fundraising commitment of $500 by May 31st, 2018, we will charge your credit card that you registered with the outstanding fundraising balance. Not to worry though, you will receive a tax receipt for this outstanding amount.

AODA TRAINING AND BUILD SITE SAFETY VIDEO:

As our committment to safety, we ask that you please watch and review the following videos prior to registration.

  1. Build Site Safety Video (15 Minutes)
  2. AODA Training (20 Minutes)

WHAT WOMEN BUILD IS ALL ABOUT:

Habitat for Humanity GTA’s Women Build is part of a global campaign that brings women together in a shared mission to help families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. Women Build empowers women to take action by building, investing and advocating for a world where everyone has a decent place to live. By bringing women together, from all walks of life, we promote spirit, empowerment, solidarity, fun, learning and pride – while working alongside volunteers and future Habitat homeowners to build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.

WHY IT MATTERS:

  • Housing rights are human rights, and everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to live.
  • Every day, more and more families in the GTA find themselves in a struggle to keep a decent roof over their heads.
  • Approx. 18% of renters in the GTA are living in overcrowded households.
  • Approx. 43% of renters in the GTA are spending more than 30% of their pre-tax income on their housing, generally considered living in unaffordable situations.
  • Approx. 22% of renters in the GTA are spending more than 50% of their pre-tax income on housing, and are forgoing necessities such as food, clothing, and furniture.
  • Approx. 30% of Habitat for Humanity GTA homeowners are single mother families.
